Experimental projects
The availability of cheap massive DNA sequencing technology is making it easier to study evolution and ecology on the DNA level in the field. With this in mind we are starting several pilot projects aimed at detecting selection for different adaptations in the field. In particular, we are looking at selection for urbanization in the Columba livia and Delichon urbicum species. We are also making a survey of genetic variability among marine invertebrate species to identify a candidate species for sequencing several complete genomes. With the help of our core facilities were are also sequencing several genomes of the archaeon Methanosarcina.
